Green Rated (“we”, “us”) operates greenrated.co.uk, an independent UK directory of verified green energy installers and repair engineers. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and the rights you have over it.

Who is responsible for your data

Green Rated is the data controller for information collected through this website. You can contact us about anything in this policy at hello@greenrated.co.uk.

What we collect

When you send an enquiry through our form: your name, email address, phone number, postcode, the service you need, your preferred timing, and anything you write in the message box. If you enquire from a company’s profile, the form also records which company you chose.

When you use our contact form or email us: your name, email address and message.

Automatically: our form system records the IP address of each submission to help prevent spam and abuse, and our hosting keeps standard server logs. Our forms briefly store your in-progress answers in your own browser (so a page refresh doesn’t lose them) — that information stays on your device and is only sent to us if you press submit.

How we use your information

• To pass your enquiry to the company you chose (or, on area pages, to a verified company covering your area) so they can contact you about your enquiry — this is the entire purpose of the form.
• To reply if you contact us directly.
• To prevent spam and keep the website secure.

We do not sell your details, and we do not pass your enquiry to lists of companies. Your details go to the company your enquiry is for — that is our standing promise across the site. Some businesses pay us for optional services, such as promoted (Featured) placement or for receiving enquiries. That is a payment by the business to us — it never changes who receives your details, and it never costs you anything.

Our lawful basis

We rely on your consent, given when you tick the agreement box before submitting an enquiry. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. For spam prevention and site security we rely on our legitimate interests in keeping the service safe.

Who we share it with

• The company your enquiry is for, so they can respond to you.
• Service providers that make the website work: our web hosting company and our email delivery service. They process data on our behalf only.
• Nobody else, unless the law requires it.

Cookies and similar technologies

We do not run advertising or tracking cookies. The website uses essential, short-lived cookies set by our caching system (LiteSpeed) to make pages load quickly. Our enquiry form uses your browser’s session storage as described above. If we ever introduce analytics or similar cookies, they will only be set after you have been asked for consent through a cookie notice on the site.

Our pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts. When a page loads, your browser requests the font files from Google’s servers, which means your IP address is visible to Google for the purpose of delivering those files. Google’s own privacy policy governs that processing.

How long we keep enquiries

We keep enquiry submissions for up to 24 months so we can deal with any follow-up questions or disputes, then delete them. You can ask us to delete your enquiry sooner at any time.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
• ask us to correct it if it is wrong;
• ask us to delete it;
• ask us to restrict or object to how we use it;
• receive it in a portable format;
• withdraw your consent at any time.

To use any of these rights, email hello@greenrated.co.uk. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

About the businesses listed on this site

Installer listings show publicly available business information (company name, contact details, certifications, service areas) gathered from official registers and the companies’ own websites. If your business is listed and you would like your listing amended or removed, email hello@greenrated.co.uk and we will act promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information — for example, if we add analytics — we will update this page and change the date at the top.
